In the world of inexpensive tablets, Android powered devices have been leading the way. Unfortunately, the word ‘cheap’ sometimes refers not only to the price tag, but also to the overall build quality and user experience with low end hardware. A new Microsoft Windows tablet is hitting store, probably not near you, that clocks in at about $48, but is it worth looking at?

The inexpensive new tablet is the Ployer MOMO7W, a 7-inch Windows tablet with 1024×600 screen resolution, an Intel Atom Bay Trail processor with 1GB of RAM and 16GB of internal storage.

The rundown of specs here is a far cry from the rundown of specs for other new tablets out there, like the Sony Xperia Z4 Tablet, for example. But for $48, that may be excusable. Adding to the value of the unit, however, you’ll also receive a 1-year subscription to Microsoft Office 365. That more than pays for the tablet alone.

So, who is selling this thing and why is it so cheap? Starting with the latter, that Bay Trail processor was built by Intel to be very affordable for these types of small tablets. Microsoft has a hand in this as well, last year announcing that Windows would be free to install on small form-factor tablets. The MOMO7W is for now only to be sold in China, where it is manufactured, running for 299 Yuan.

What do you do if you live outside China, but you still want a super affordable tablet? Well, there are options like the Winbook TW700, that runs for about $70, and the HP Stream 7, which was recently on sale for just $75. Both of which rock specs perhaps better, but still not unlike the MOMO7W above.

In the end, it is not for us to say if a $70, or even a $48 7-inch range Windows tablet is the right choice for you. As long as you are aware of that you likely will not be able to play the latest and greatest games, enjoy HD or up to 4K video, nor be able to even connect an external monitor, mouse or keyboard (in some cases, like the MOMO7W,) then I say go for it. Worst case scenario, Office 365 runs for about $70/year, making the $50 tablet a great deal at least in one regard.

Head on over to Liliputing to see what they had to say about the MOMO7W, or just hit the Ployer website for all the details.

What do you say, do you prioritize specs over price when you go tablet shopping?
